Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.
